The late Nell S. Graydon published numerous books and newspaper magazine articles.

A native of North Carolina, she made her home in the South Carolina upcountry.

She and her family spent their summers on Edisto Island, between Charleston and Beaufort.
 
While collecting and compiling these tales, Nell Graydon was asked if she believed in ghosts. "There are plenty of places mentioned in these tales where I would not want spend the night alone," she replied.
